The Nashville three-piece Judah & The Lion return with a new single called “Over My Head” written from the perspective of front-man Judah Akers as he navigated a time that was both hugely successful and mentally tolling, gives us an unencumbered look into the mind of an artist, and reminds us that being successful does not always mean being happy. “I was on the road and homesick. So that feeling’s rushing in, mom’s not doing well, not talking to dad, my sister’s sad,” said Akers. “All these thoughts were happening and I was so overwhelmed with life. I was medicating and distracting myself in different ways so I could get through. I’ve felt like for most of the past 5 years I’ve been drowning in my own thoughts. Hard to sleep. Hard to process, consumed myself with distractions. Hard to do anything. Writing this song helped me process.” Judah & The Lion have already been confirmed for this year’s Hangout Festival.
KONGOS have returned with an anthemic new single, “Pay For The Weekend,” off the band’s fourth album “1929 - Part 1” album out January 18th via Tokoloshe. When asked about the song, Jesse Kongos said, “It’s about the up and the down and how they can’t exist without each other. There’s nothing like coming down from a big weekend to remind you that maybe today or maybe some time down the line the effect of every cause will eventually play out and start the cycle all over again.” Catch the KONGOS on tour in January and February.
The Strumbellas have returned with their newest single called "Salvation." This track marks a stylistic turn from their melancholy, introspective releases. The Canadian band is currently working to complete their fourth studio album coming in 2019. “Our whole dream has been to make cool, small-town music with just a fun, poppy feeling,” says The Strumbellas lead singer & guitarist, Simon Ward. “Every record we do, we get closer to that. ‘Salvation’ is exactly what we wanted to do, what we were hoping to get out of this song and record: fun, poppy songs that are sad and weird.”
"Clean Eyes” is the latest single from from Seattle artist and producer, SYML. When asked about the song, Brian Fennell (SYML) said, “I wrote 'Clean Eyes' as an outlet to express my least favorite thing about myself, that I’m a cynic. I think that is one of the most ugly traits a person can have. Somehow, I found someone who loves me through my cynicism, and shows me the world through her beautiful and honest lens.” He added, “I’ve been writing and producing a lot of material this year as I work towards an album. This is really the first song we approached with more of a 'band’ mentality. It was a fun challenge because of the contrast between the intimate lyrics and anthemic choruses.”" SYML has been touring with Flora Cash and has new album due in 2019.
