Notarized Affidavits?

A question has been raised by a client of mine today.... in this day and age of electronic reconciliation of spots from computer playout systems, why do we still have to provide certain clients with notarized affidavits?
Would'nt an affidavit from the playout system with spot title and time do the same job?
