Are the AMAs Necessary?

Seriously? Just caught these on my DVR and they were ridiculous. Seems like they are just hunting for something to fill this season. Controversy, Spills, Adam Lambert, Taylor Swift. It almost seemed a little too scripted. But seriously is this needed??? Aside from the spill you could pretty much see what was coming a mile away.
