Is the Jack format working??

I heard a convo the other day between a few individuals talking about how radio's lost its edge and they brought up the Jack-FM station (won't say which city) When I butted in they told me that they felt as though the station didn't care enough about the music to put a jock in their. They looked at it as radio was turning their back on them and I couldn't find a good argument to defend it.

Yes its sad, but if you look at the amount of money and some difficulties saved without
on-air talent most stations would say that its worth it.

Its not sad.. Its economical its what works!! I think that more stations will convert to this. Most jocks now rarely say anything that isn't an ad. "Wow my car insurance is so cheap thanks to..... " This eliminates this completely. I'd really like to see this happen with a rock station or country station to see what their numbers would be.

Let me give you a clue, if you think "The Pina Colada Song" is the reason why someone would forget about all else during their busy day, to tune in to dated songs from the 70's & 80's, I suggest you get a GRIP ON REALITY!! Personality radio is what it's about. Personalities, not dumb songs, not Lady Gaga, not Bruce...but an entertaining host, not a stupid song.
The question then becomes, not is the Jack format working???
But are the disc jockeys working??!!! Do they entertain & inform? Do they have a sense of humor?

please look at the latest ratings for whlk 106.5 fm the lake in cleveland ohio. it is now number 2 in the market after being on the air for 4 months. it came on the air in janurary 2010. clevealnd ohio has a good radio station. thank you clear channel. please do not change a thing. for me it is wgcl G98 fm on the air again. a top 40 station in the 1980's in cleveland that was either number 1 2 or 3 in the cleveland ohio radio market.

No, but Let the Market decide. If you have a good air signal but are stuck at 0.5 give Jack a look.
In Vancouver BC, how of the original and highest Rated Jack, they have air personalities helping Jack out. They have a 3 person morning show and they have live talent all day. Nothing comes off the bird.
And the market loves it. It doesnt hurt that their Jack also has a monster signal.
Jack made a big splash in Seattle and now has settled into the pack. (Jack still beats "K-Rock" and "The Point" which preceeded it. 96.5 has a very favorable air signal and never got the ratings to match it.) Maybe its a tax shelter for CBS?
Let it fly or die. Theres a reason Jack failed in New York and Chicago and why there has never been one in San Fransisco (KQJK is a Rim Shot at best) or Philadelphia (Although MAX and BEN respectively bombed) . Live and Local win in the Books. Love and Local win PPM. Live and Local win Cume.

Guess it depends on the market. It bombed in NY and Chicago, but it's doing very well in Detroit and Cleveland.
